Elizabeth Warren Slams Trump for Failing to Deliver on Cost-Cutting Promises

Must read

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren sharply criticized President Donald Trump on Sunday, August 17, 2025, for failing to fulfill his campaign pledge to lower costs for Americans, accusing his administration of allowing expenses like housing, healthcare, groceries, and utilities to soar. Speaking during an exclusive interview on WBZ-TV’s Keller at Large, Warren highlighted the administration’s unkept promises as a key opportunity for Democrats to champion affordability.

“Trump repeatedly said he’d lower costs on day one—every rally, every ad, even in post-election interviews, he claimed that’s why he won,” Warren stated. “But costs are up, up, up. He hasn’t delivered, and that’s where Democrats can step in, fighting for working families.” Warren pointed to rising prices across critical sectors, contrasting Trump’s rhetoric with the economic reality faced by Americans.

Warren emphasized the Democratic Party’s commitment to affordability, particularly in healthcare and housing. “We don’t believe 17 million Americans should lose their healthcare,” she said. “We’re pushing for more housing to ease the burden on families, and we’ll keep making that case.” She also praised Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s initiative to expand pre-kindergarten seats, noting that such programs free up parents to work while reducing financial strain. “Yes, it’s funded through taxes, but it means more families can earn a living and contribute,” Warren explained, advocating for higher taxes on billionaires to support such efforts.

The senator also defended her recent endorsement of Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, and his proposal for publicly owned grocery stores to address food deserts. “In parts of New York, fresh fruits and vegetables at affordable prices are scarce,” Warren said. “This model has worked in other cities and even in military PX stores. It’s about taking action to lower costs, not just saying ‘nothing can be done’ because billionaires don’t want to pay more taxes.”

Additionally, Warren highlighted her support for a bipartisan plan to boost affordable housing construction, signaling her focus on collaborative solutions to economic challenges. Her remarks come as Trump’s approval rating slipped to 38%, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll, with dissatisfaction tied to economic policies like tariffs that have driven inflation.

As Boston and the nation grapple with rising costs, Warren’s critique positions affordability as a central issue for Democrats heading into future elections. Tune in to WBZ-TV’s Keller at Large every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. for more insights from Massachusetts’ political leaders.
